PKB manufactures ultra high-speed dental bearings at our quality certified factory .Bearings for high speed dental handpiece applications offer long life at speeds approaching 500K RPM and will withstand repeated autoclaving. All high-speed instrument bearings for dental and surgical applications are manufactured from 440C stainless steel, the preferred choice for all our instrument bearings. Its corrosion resistance allows for repeated sterilizing. Its highly finished, honed surface provides a long lasting structure for the 440C or Silicon Nitride (ceramic) balls, which allows the bearing to rotate smoothly at the high speeds seen in dental handpieces. Food safe oils and greases designed for high speeds and temperatures play a key role in the performance of any high-speed dental bearing used in a dental handpiece.
For high speed applications, bearing noise, vibration, and life are all important factors which are heavily affected by both the bearing design and the intricate details of the bearing production process. To meet the unique challenges encountered by ultra high-speed dental bearings in speeds approaching 500,000 RPM, the PKB engineering team designates a specific set of additives in our popular heat and moisture resistant Phenolic and Torlon (polyamide-imide) retainers.
High-speed dental bearings, that run at speeds approaching 500K RPM, require special consideration. Excessive heat and vibration can cause premature bearing failure of the dental bearing. This risk is elevated as the ball bearing speed is increased. To ensure smooth and quiet running bearings, PKB performs special processing on the internal mating surfaces of the ball bearing components. In addition to the extra care involved in manufacturing the components, the assembly process includes a tightened radial play to ensure that each high-speed dental bearing contains the same internal geometries as the next. Bores can be specially coded to ensure a consistent and reliable bearing fit on any dental handpiece shaft.
Shaft diameter is an important consideration for high-speed dental bearings. The internal components are matched with a specifically calibrated amount of radial play to ensure maximum ball bearing life. If the dental ball bearing is pressed onto the impeller shaft too tightly, the radial play can be compromised and even eliminated, resulting is overheating and premature failure of the high-speed dental bearing.
